March Nook – Melvin Galapon

February 17, 2009

Thanks to everyone who saw the last show. It was great to see some examples of Alex’s illustrations alongside his beautiful moving image work up on the glittery heart screen. If you ever need to speak with Alex Turvey, you can contact him at alex@alexturvey.com

This month, we have the exciting work of talented artist, Melvin Galapon. Since leaving university in 2003 and hailing from a small town in the North of England Melvin has been developing his interest in recycling materials to painstakingly construct images. This has lead him to constructing lungs out of cigarette packets to portraits of famous people built out of pushpins. Melvin’s work embraces playfulness and relies a lot on conceptual thinking which he finds rather enjoyable. His current work mainly consists of exploring the possibilities of the coloured sticker label a stationary classic and a material which has inspired some of his most interesting works to date.

With clients ranging from The Guardian to Howies and a plethora of publications in the likes of Wallpaper, Computer arts magazine and The New York Times, Melvin’s show promises to be a cracker, so make sure you swing past and have a look. The show will be up from the 27th February.
